I recently decided to write reviews for each record I own. When I told a friend about the scheme a while back, the smile dropped from his face and a look of concern appeared. "You're insane. You know that, right? Right?" Insane would be pushing it, but I realise it's a pretty monumental and more than somewhat esoteric task. Two motives lay behind this decision, both selfish. 1: Get to know my collection better. 2: Better condition myself to write about music on demand rather than impulse (although impulse definitely manages to find its way in). I won't be reviewing singles (unless I feel some perverse urge), EPs will more than likely be reviewed, and I haven't yet made up my mind about comps and soundtracks. I don't exactly know how many reviews will be written with these stipulations in place, but I'm guessing somewhere in the area of 700-800. There was an initial scheme of writing the reviews in alphabetical order, which has since been scrapped as too counter-productive and just plain frustrating. Hopefully I'll work out a better system of organisation as the reviews amass. May as well get some extra HTML practice while I'm at it...
